Shipping Container Personnel Doors & Windows

Plan container man doors, walk-through access, windows, security hardware, framing and weather sealing for storage containers, offices and workshops.

DOORS. WINDOWS. EVERYDAY ACCESS.

An easier way in.
A better view out.

A personnel door, also called a man door or walk-through door, can make frequent entry more practical than opening cargo doors. State what people carry through it, who uses the space and whether equipment needs a separate larger opening.

DEFINE THE DETAILS

Build the scope around your use.

Locate openings before fitting the interior

A door or window should work with desks, shelves, partitions and the outside approach. Review the door swing, landing or ramp needs, window height, staff sightlines and room for service equipment before the cut location is approved.

Include framing and weather protection

Cutting an opening changes the steel shell. Door or window size, reinforcement, attachment, flashing, weather seals, thresholds, coatings and finish work should be identified in the scope. Structural requirements depend on the opening and intended use.

Specify practical security

Discuss locking hardware, lock protection and window security bars where appropriate. Coordinate any security feature with required emergency exit arrangements and site access rules. Security options are not a substitute for reviewing occupied-use requirements.

Balance daylight, privacy and comfort

Window size and orientation affect natural light, privacy and heating or cooling demand. Share the desk arrangement or work activity and any ventilation needs. A fixed window, opening window and powered ventilation serve different purposes.

FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Coordinate the details
before fabrication.

Include the container size, intended use, delivery ZIP, drawings or notes, and the systems you need. Confirm dimensions, materials, equipment, site work and responsibilities in the written proposal.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Before choosing your layout.

Can I retain the original cargo doors?

That can be discussed when reviewing the layout. Personnel access and cargo loading may serve different functions; confirm both with the intended contents and use.

What width personnel door should I choose?

List the people, tools and equipment that need to pass through it. A wider opening may suit tack, carts or larger items, while clearance, framing and the surrounding wall need review.

Can you add doors to a container I already own?

Send the container location, size, condition and photos. The existing shell must be reviewed for suitability, transport and fabrication scope before the work is confirmed.
